RV maintenance is key to keeping your rig out of the service shop and on the road where it belongs. There are plenty of proactive steps you can take regarding the upkeep of your RV, which we cover below.
Read the Owner’s Manual
To keep your RV in the best possible shape, it’s important that you understand the model. By reading the owner’s manual and continuing to occasionally brush up on it, you’ll know exactly what’s necessary to keep it running properly. You’ll also have a better understanding of all the components of the RV, where they’re located, and what they do.
Inspecting the RV
We know that our customers have varying levels of fix-it skills, tools, and confidence, so trying to dole out specific instructions is a little difficult. One thing that everyone can do is to thoroughly inspect their RV. Check every inch of the rig, outside and in, and look for any possible concerns.
This will be especially important after taking your camper out of storage for the camping season, as there are some problems that can accumulate over the winter, including but not limited to critter infestations. You won’t have as many mechanical issues to worry about, but checking the tires and overall integrity of the RV is probably a good idea.
Replace Your Filters
Your RV’s filters work hard to ensure that no harmful substances make their way into the important mechanical parts of your vehicle. This means they will trap and hold a number of substances, which will build up over time.
Replacing your air, hydraulic, and coolant filters are imperative to keeping your engine healthy. If these filters are compromised, they can’t block your internal structures from dirt and debris. This will result in costly part replacement due to irreparable damage if left unchecked.
If you own a motorhome, you’ll want to check its engine filters. If you own a towable RV, you’ll want to check your tow vehicle’s engine filters.
