Class C motorhomes, also referred to as “mid-size” or “alcove” style motorhomes, are a subset of the motorhome category of recreational vehicles, somewhere between the large class A motorhomes and small class B motorhomes in size. Definition of Class C
There are a few defining features of class C motorhomes that separate them from their counterparts. They are modeled off a truck chassis, giving the front of the camper the look of a large truck with an overhanging alcove above the cab. This alcove can be either one of the interior sleeping berths or a storage space, depending on the floor plan. The truck chassis and more compact size of class C motorhomes makes them easier to drive and maneuver without sacrificing much in terms of amenities, floor space and sleeping berths. You can find very well-appointed class C motorhomes with all the comforts of home in a condensed, road-friendly package.
Super Cs
A subset of class Cs called super Cs exists, and these are much larger and more luxurious than the usual motorhome. The sheer size of super Cs is generally accented with slide-outs that offer more interior space when the motorhome is parked for camping. Super Cs approach the size and luxury of class A motorhomes while still providing the truck chassis base and alcove styling of normal class C motorhomes, which can make them easier to maneuver and drive.
Gas Vs. Diesel
Both super Cs and normal class Cs come in either gasoline or diesel fuel models. Each fuel type has its own advantages. Diesel-fueled models can generally hold more weight, but are more expensive to purchase. However, they last a long time and don’t require as much maintenance overall due to their more rugged construction. Gasoline-powered engines are much more affordable when bought new and provide more horsepower, but fuel costs may be higher.
